Use DealerTide with Claude and ChatGPT
The DealerTide AI Connector lets you ask about your dealership in plain English from Claude or ChatGPT and get answers from your own DealerTide data. Each person connects with their own DealerTide login, so the AI sees exactly what that person can see in DealerTide, at their company and their locations, and nothing more.
What you need
- A DealerTide subscription with the AI Connector add-on turned on. Contact support@dealertide.com to add it.
- A role that is allowed to connect. Company administrators can connect by default. An administrator can let other roles connect under Settings, Users, Roles & Permissions, using the AI Connector (Claude, ChatGPT) permission: Read lets the role connect, Update also lets it make changes.
- A Claude or ChatGPT plan that supports connectors.
Connect Claude
- In Claude, open Settings, Connectors and find DealerTide in the directory. If it is not listed for you yet, choose Add custom connector and enter
https://api.dealertide.com/mcp. - Click Connect. You are sent to DealerTide to sign in.
- Review the consent screen. It names the app and your company. Tick Also let it make changes if you want Claude to add notes, tasks and leads for you. Leave it unticked for read only.
- Click Allow. You return to Claude and the connector shows as connected.
Connect ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, open Settings, Apps and Connectors, add a connector with the URL https://api.dealertide.com/mcp and OAuth sign-in, then follow the same sign-in and consent steps. Business and Enterprise workspaces may need an administrator to allow custom connectors first.
What you can ask
- "Give me my morning briefing." Overdue tasks, new leads, leads going cold and deals that went quiet.
- "Triage the leads from the last two days." Ranked, with a next step for each.
- "Which homes have been on the lot more than 90 days, and which leads might want them?"
- "Show me deals that have not moved in two weeks and what is holding each up."
- "Where are we with the Reed family?" Their history in one paragraph and a follow-up ready to send.
- "What is urgent in service?" Open tickets by priority.
- "How did our last few email campaigns do?"
The connector also offers ready-made prompts (morning briefing, lead triage, aging inventory, stalled deals, customer follow-up and service backlog) in the app's prompt menu.
What it can change
Only when you allowed changes on the consent screen, and the AI asks you before each one:
- Create leads, add notes, create tasks and open service tickets.
- Update a lead's status or owner, and move a deal to another stage.
- Enroll a lead or contact in a nurture sequence.
- Save a workflow or an email campaign as a draft.
What it will not do
- It cannot delete records.
- It cannot activate a workflow, or start, schedule or send a campaign. Drafts are reviewed and turned on by a person in DealerTide.
- It cannot see anything your DealerTide role cannot see, or any other company's data.
- It does not see dealer cost, gross profit or margin unless your company administrator turns on Let AI apps see dealer cost, and then only for people who can already see cost in DealerTide. It never sees commission.
Controls for administrators
Under Settings, Integrations, AI Apps an administrator can:
- See every connected app, who connected it, and whether it can make changes.
- Review recent AI activity: each request, who made it, and how many records it returned.
- Undo a single change, or undo everything a connection changed in the last hours.
- Set limits: records an AI app may read per person per day, and changes per person per hour and per day.
- Disconnect any app. It loses access immediately.
Administrators are alerted in DealerTide when a limit is reached or an app is refused repeatedly.
Privacy and security
Sign-in uses OAuth with your DealerTide account; your password is never shared with the AI app. Access can be revoked at any time. Requests are logged so your administrator can review them. Information an AI app receives is handled under that provider's own terms and privacy policy. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Troubleshooting
- "Ask your admin to turn it on" on the consent screen: the add-on is off for your company, or your role is not allowed to connect.
- The AI says it can only read: you connected without allowing changes, or your role lacks the Update permission. Disconnect and connect again with Also let it make changes ticked.
- "Daily limit reached": your administrator can raise the limit under Settings, Integrations, AI Apps.
